Mass Air Start Controller for the new A380 Airbus
In preparation for the arrival of the new A380 British Airways have upgraded the maintenance facilities at Heathrow Airport.
In 2011 J&J were commissioned to design and build a Mass Air Start controller specifically for the new A380 Airbus.
With many years experience in building Control panels for a host of customers and applications worldwide; this was one of our more exciting projects.
The controller incorporates ABB power stabiliser, feeding a PLC controller and Electro Pneumatic control circuits, with multiple safety devices providing controlled and safe engine test, and starting.
The features of the CZ01.15E controller enable engineers to safely prime and then test start the Jet engines; offering flexibility and reducing maintenance times through more efficient working procedures.
The Rolls Royce Engines can be independently started and tested. The controller constantly measures the Air Flow generated by the Mass Air Start Generator and in case of any faults shuts down the Air Supply to the Aircraft.
The CZ01.15E Controller is capable of handling up to 2745lb/sec inlet mass flow/engine, and provides Direct start (or Remote cockpit start) simultaneously of all the Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines.
Further safety systems can be deployed between the Aircraft and the CZ01.15E to ensure if loss of pressure were detected during a test cycle the unit would shut down the Air Supply to the Aircraft immediately; and vent safely to atmosphere.
The CZ Range of Mass Air Start controllers are suitable for use with Rolls Royce, GE, SNECMA, MTU, Pratt and Whitney and other leading Jet engine manufacturers.
Available for Civil or Defence applications.
