A worldwide medical devices company based in Oxfordshire and an existing client of J&J Air Systems required to upgrade their Compressed Air System. The customer is a manufacture of anaesthesia and other medical products and has distribution and service networks worldwide.
Critical to the customer’s production processes, was the need for a reliable, economical, clean and dry, bacteria-free, supply of Compressed Air used for the manufacture of medical devices. The customers’ existing fixed speed Compair compressor units which were in excess of 25 years old, and whilst still running reliably the compressors were programmed to be replaced and upgraded.
J&J Air Systems Data logged the customer’s site, and as a result specified the installation of two variable speed CompAir Air Compressor units to maximise efficiency, and helping reduce energy consumption, and to meet varying production demands, combined with the Air Treatment package.
We therefore specified two Gardner Denver Compair L11RS variable speed Air Compressor designed and manufactured in Germany, and each unit producing a maximum volume of 1.8 m³/min at 7 bar pressure. The Compair L11RS Air Compressors are supplied with 4000 hour service intervals, and a 6 year; or 48,000 hour Assure™ Warranty.
Additionally two Parker DH Series Desiccant Compressed air Driers were installed to achieve the target air quality of -40˚c PDP to remove all moisture and prevent bacterial growth. Combined with the Air Treatment package 2 x General Purpose and 2 x Oil Vapour & 2 x Odour Removal filters, achieved an air quality of oil vapour content: 0.003 mg /m³ at 21 °C / 0.003 ppm (w) at 20 °c.
J&J Air Systems were the chosen supplier due to the established relationship with the customer over many years, and J&J’s unique understanding of system technical requirements, and specifying the recommendations to improve the customers system with a more energy efficient, economic and reliable units, whilst achieving Air Quality objectives.
